Simonds Stadium Redevelopment Stage 4

Simonds Stadium Redevelopment Stage 4

In 2007, a $100 million plan was unveiled to redevelop Kardinia Park, the home of the Geelong Football Club for over 60 years. To be renamed Simonds Stadium, this redevelopment would take place over multiple stages, with the final stage to commence construction at the end of 2018. All Purpose Pumps were contacted to assist with the design and supply of a number of water supply and disposal systems for the upgrade, helping to keep the Geelong Football Club in Geelong for at least the next 20 years.

The Simonds Stadium redevelopment includes:

  • 6,000-seat Eastern Grandstand with 700-seat Banquet/Conference Facility and Media Centre
  • A New $1 million Scoreboard
  • 100-seat Café
  • Dedicated Community Rehabilitation Area
  • 2-story Merchandise Store
  • Gymnasium and Cardio Area
  • Player Welfare and Development Centre
  • New Locker Rooms, Auditoriums and Change Rooms to Cater for VFL and AFLW

Fulfilling Multiple Requirements

For drainage of the plant room, an All Purpose Pumps Packaged Pump Station was recommended for its strength and rigidity in all types of ground conditions, its engineering certification and the available back up support. All Purpose Pumps Fibreglass (FRP) Pump Stations are structurally engineered and will not creep, invert, warp or corrode even when high water table is present. These FRP Pump Stations are the easiest of their kind to install with a low cost and fast backfill procedure. The FRP Pump station is fitted with HYFLOW Vortex Pumps, having a 35mm free unobstructed solids passage, ideal for pumping liquids where soft or fibrous solids may be present.

To provide a constant water supply throughout the stadium, All Purpose Pumps recommended a Quad (4) Pump Packaged Water Pressure Pump System with a combined capacity to deliver more that 20lps at 650kpa with redundancy. The systems control has an easy to use colour touch screen that graphically represents the system and clearly identifies the status of all critical system parameters. These controls also feature data logging, trending and remote control capability. An important specification was to use 'Industry Standard' Variable Speed Drives (VSD's) mounted inside a control cabinet to remove the limitation around choice of replacement and technicians to service the equipment in future.

All Purpose Pumps are excited to be a part of the Simonds Stadium redevelopment project, ensuring the future of the Geelong Football Club in Geelong and providing new facilities for use by the VFL, AFLW and local community.
